What are Xenon and Krypton Light Bulbs?
You may have wondered why some light bulbs include Xenon or Krypton gas. Xenon and Krypton light bulbs are so-named because they use krypton and/or xenon as part or all of their gas fill. Most standard incandescent light bulbs use inert argon and nitrogen gas to suppress electrical “arcing” between the lead-in wires. Krypton and xenon gas are contributors that add to the efficiency of the lamp compared to ones filled with argon. Both gases conduct less heat than argon. Also, both gases have a larger molecule size that staves off the evaporation of the tungsten filament and increases your light bulb’s life. Depending on your bulb’s size and filament type, adding krypton and xenon gas can increase the efficiency of the lamp from seven to twenty percent. Xenon bulbs tend to be used primarily for special application bulbs and will be more expensive than Krypton bulbs due to their higher performance level.
