Dimmers & Switches
Light has an incredible impact on all of our lives. It can set and dictate moods, affect our ability to accomplish work and tasks, and even affect our overall health.
Sometimes we also need to utilize rooms for different purposes. This is where the handy dimmer switch comes into play. This electrical component allows you to adjust the level of light by turning a knob or or sliding a lever.
How Dimmer Switches Work
The switching cycle of the unit is constructed around the vacillation of household alternating current (AC). Basically, the moving charge that makes up AC current is constantly changing direction. In the United States, it goes through one cycle 60 times a second, causing the light bulb circuit to be switched off many times every second. This is because a reisistor shuts the light circuit off and on quickly, reducing the amount of energy flowing through the circuit.
At Louie Lighting we have hundreds of dimmer switches available from popular brands in the industry such as Lutron. These energy saving light control systems come in a host of varieties depending on your installation needs. For instance, many dimmers also contain switches for Ceiling Fans in addition to light control options. Several also come with wallplates, and can be used to control multiple locations.
You’ll want to look for a dimmer switch that is easy and intuitive to use. Most options today require standard 3-way wiring/single pole. Be sure the dimmer switch contains surge protection for safety against an electrical fire. Select a dimmer switch with “power failure memory” so that the configuration will return to working order after the event of a power outage, without requiring set up again.
