The type of security flood lights being used depends largely on the kind of outdoor security lighting system required. In case you opt for continuously running the security flood lights, then it is better to opt for LED security flood lights, which have lower operating expenses and longer lifespan. In case you decide to go for outdoor motion detector with security flood lights connected to it, then there are more options added to include LED, halogen and incandescent bulbs. This is since here it is the speed of switching on the light which matters more than cost or lifespan considerations. If the light has been turned on, it means the motion detector has detected the presence of an intruder and the faster the area is lighted up, the safer, and these outdoor security lights will not be switched on for very long periods. Keep in mind, outdoor security flood lights should be installed near each access point of the house. This includes the doors both at the front and the back, the garage door and other potential entry points. Further, precaution should be taken to ensure that the inlet electrical cabling for these security lights is tamper-proof. If possible, a back-up circuit should be provided to deal with intentional rigging or accidental shorting of the circuitry.
To emphasize, In case of continuous full-night operating security lighting outdoors, LED security flood lights are preferred since these consume lesser electricity for the same amount of lighting and have a longer lifespan, thus proving to be economical over their lifetime.
