Path lighting is commonly installed outside the home – either from the curb or from a detached garage to the entrance of the house. Apart from decorative purposes, the most important practical consideration while installing LED path lights is safety – lights in the pathway reduce the risk of stumbling in the dark. Of late, LED path lights have become most preferred due to the obvious advantages of LED lights. Their efficiency, availability in a range of colors, flexibility in size, ability to be dimmed, low heat generation, gradual failure (as opposed to sudden fusing off and failing of normal incandescent bulbs), longer life and shock resistance are some of the benefits. Even though the initial start-up cost of LED path lights is more than normal pathway lights, this is more than made up for by the advantages which LED path lights offer over their lifetime.

LED path lights can be installed in 3 different styles – quick route lights, paver lights and bollard lights. Of these, quick path lights, which can be placed alternatively on both sides of the pathway, are the most common. They come in a variety of designs and colors. Paver lights are set into the ground – inside the stonework or the concrete work. Bollard lights are set in a short, upright ground-mounted unit. To help you select the right LED path lights for your pathway we have listed a few points which need to be kept in mind while installing LED path lighting as are listed below.  The LED path lights should be placed with care along the pathway, to avoid the impression of an airport runway. Alternating and staggering them along the pathway is a good design. LED path lights should not cast a too bright or harsh glare – it is preferable that the shades cast by path lights be muted and smooth. The most important safety feature to be considered while installing LED path lights is the path on which the electric cable is run. The cable should always be run through a shallow trench, in order to avoid any chances of being damaged. The transformer should be mounted about 12 inches above the ground near the electrical outlet.
