It is not often that one comes across a line of lighting fixtures, or better “Lighting Sculptures”, who’s concept began during the early 1900’s yet still maintains a unique and artistic feeling today. But, the Fortuny line by Stadium is just that. The Fortuny Lighting Sculptures consist of hanging pendant lights, floor lamps and wall sconces and are used in a variety of locations including Hotels, Restaurants and homes. |
THE CREATOR
It would be an injustice to review the Fortuny line without first paying tribute to the original creator Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo (1871-1949). While not of the era, he was a true Renaissance man. His curious and innovative mind led him to focus on artistic production based on research in various disciplines such as textile, lighting, painting, photography and architecture as well as interior and stage design. |
His research and experimentation with lighting led him to a number of patents. He also invented new methods of textile dyeing and printing processes onto fabrics, reproducing the color, depth and beauty of ancient tapestries, brocades and velvets.
These new methods allowed Mariano Fortuny to penetrate the world of fashion, which still influences women today. |

At the beginning of the last century Fortuny experimented with different aspects of light.Solely for decoration purposes he created the fascinating Fortuny lamps for indoor lighting, which helped diffuse subtle light through opalescent silk shades that are stretched over a form made of delicate wire. |

The silk was hand-painted with gold motifs that were the inspiration by Oriental art and decorated with glass beads and silk cording.
MADE IN ITALY
Fortuny lights are currently produced by Venetia Studium in Venice Italy, which is the only company in the world that is entitled to use the trademark.
Not only does Venetia Stadium use sophisticated and refined techniques ensuring the finest quality of design and production on all its creations but they pay great attention to every detail in the design and manufacturing of each original lamp bearing the Fortuny trademark.
The company’s founder, Lino Lando, states that the ambition of Venetia Studium is, “to create new objects speaking an ancient language of elegance and good taste.” Venice is the birthplace of the Fortuny lamps and it is Venice, which gives them their ambiance. |

SILKY SMOOTH
The Fortuny hanging pendant lights, floor lamps and wall sconces are made of silk or glass while the Fortuny Concubine collection is only available in silk.
The silk used to create the Fortuny lights is woven from yarn with very long fibers and of a good texture and thickness, making the lamps resistant to ware.Decorated and molded on metal structures, the Fortuny silk provides an incomparable filter of light, transforming each lamp into a genuine and authentic sculpture that is elegant, charming and timeless. |

TOUCH OF GLASS
In the glass range of the Fortuny lamps, Venetia Studium continues the ancient tradition of the Venetian master glass blowers, while retaining the elegance and originality of the shapes found in the silk version. The brilliance and transparency of the glass enhances the delicate gold decoration, made even more precious by the burnished metal of the decorative metal ring.
